Jewel City Pinheads 19, SledgeHammers 5
Posted by Big Daddy on August 25th, 2010
For the final week of the regular season the SledgeHammers did not answer the bell. Things went badly early and often. With the Hurd still en route at game time, Ga stepped up on the hill refreshed by a Hawaiian honeymoon. A thankless job as a few walks, a few hits and an error or two put 6 runs on the board for Jewel City. L Train led the jeers with the combo Skipper/Little Buddy golf hat commentary. Jeff arrived about five minutes late, but put his stamp on the Hammer first with a 3 run dinger that made it 6-4 after one inning. That was as close as it would get as JC put up 4 more in the second inning and we went 3up3down. They hit. We erred. They made plays. We hit less. Not pretty. No answers.
Rang the bell:
With fourteen eventually in the lineup, everyone got up twice with two exceptions. Only Hobbs was 2for2 with a single and a double good for a run. The only answer.
Hit it on the head:
Seegs was a latecomer from the airport arriving in time to get the only Hammer hit in the final inning. Sweats had the line: Eddie would have been on time.
Bobby, Miguel, JB, Jeff, Ga, Patrick, Billy and Alex all reached 1 of 2. That is the short answer.
Hammered:
The only one to get 3 trips to the plate was Garey. He flew out 3 times.
In 2 trips Rhodie, Steve and I came up dry. Wrong answers.
Next week the playoffs begin. We play against the fourth place Plumb Crazy. Find the answers.
The buried treasure of the Glendale park system is Montrose field. A ballpark with more nooks and crannies than an English muffin. Hidden in those cubby holes are the spirits of past performances and the potential for future comedy. We had both in this early game as the Hammers stumbled to a low scoring victory over Plumb Crazy. Literally stumbled in my case. And the theme of the game was...
A baker's dozen locked up the lead early for the Sledgehammers on Ripley Believe It or Not night. Four innings and sixteen outs shared by thirteen batters could have been ugly, but on this night it was just odd. 29 hits including 9 for extra bases meant 27 runs against the contending Punks who did not have their Compton on the hill to match up against our Hammering Hurd dropping them from the...
Good enough start as the Hammers led 5-1 after the first, but the Doo Dahs swarmed back as the Hammer sticks cooled off. The DDs reached 10 runs first and led 15-8 after four innings. A leadoff triple by Seegs made it 15-9 after five, but time was nearly gone and the sixth inning would be it. More evil pitching by the Hurd shut down the visitors and Jeff led off the...
Plenty of pop in the Hammer lineup for the opening game of the double header. Top to bottom everybody hit and everybody scored. The Hurd high arc had the opposition swinging at either the circumference of the ball or the air surrounding it. Pop.
Rang the bell:
Garey a perfect 4for4 and able to orchestrate the cycle after his leadoff single and third inning homer. He can seemingly get doubles and triples at...
However you want to phrase it, the only loss suffered by Sledgehammers this season has been avenged. Opened up a 10 run can of whoop ass in the first inning and never looked back. Sweet.
Rang the bell:
JB a perfect 4for4 with a double and a homer for 3 runs and 5 ribbies. Have you seen his nerf ball?
6 Month Season Ends As Hammer's Become Champs Again
SledgeHammers 17, Dirty Dozen 16

When the longest 10 week softball season in Glendale history finally came to end, the Sledge Hammers' went into hiatus as the 2009 Fall Champions as they hung on to defeat Dirty Dozen by a 17-16 score.
Due to the Winter/Spring season already being full, the Sledge Hammers' are going to take a season off in hopes to retool for the Summer League.
Many thanks to the entire Sledge Hammers roster this past season for hanging in...
For the 2nd week in a row, the fields in Glendale were too wet to play on after a week's worth of rain. We have 3 makeup games in January. Until then, have a great holiday everyone!
