Sox Win Finale

Posted by Maas on August 14th, 2010

The Sox pulled one out in a big rivalry game today against the Cardinals. The Cardinals and the Sox have had some big time battles the last two seasons . The Sox beat the Cards in the championship game at UCSD last season and then lost a come from behind game to start the season earlier in season after the Cards scored 5 in the top of the 9th. So, the Sox had a lot riding on the last game of the season. Blood, sweat, and tears would go into the game that would end the Sox's first wood bat AAA season in the team's history.

Playing at a less than ideal location, both teams had to deal with poor field conditions and an umpiring crew that was extremely inconsistent for both teams. There was no defined strike zone and even the fans in the stands were at a loss when a number of bad calls were made. Both teams fought hard though and made it an amazing game. The Cardinals got on the board first scoring 2 in the 2nd but the Sox took the lead with 4 in the top of 4th. The Cardinals took a 1 run lead in the bottom 4th scoring 3. The Cardinals added another run in the bottom of the 6th but the Sox answered with 2 in the top of the 7th. Going into the top of the 9th inning, the game was tied at 8. Burnett led the inning off with a single, Bogart bunted Burnett over to 2nd, Ontiveros worked a walk, Carey managed a single to load the bases with 1 out. This is the same situation the Sox had the previous week loading the bases with 1 out in a close game. Gabriel Rivera struck out for the 2nd out of the inning which put all of the Sox's hopes on the 0-3 Maas who worked the count full and then stroked a single to left scoring 2 runs to give the Sox the lead. The Cardinals scored 1 run in the bottom of the 9th and with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Millar made the catch of the season at first base snaring a hard hit line drive for the 3rd out and the win.
Millar had his best game yet throwing 6 strong innings, striking out 9 and only walking 2. Carey got the win in relief tossing 3 innings, striking out 3, and only allowing 1 run. The middle of the lineup came up huge today with Burnett, Bogart, and Ontiveros each collecting 3 hits. Carey and Smith had 2 hits a piece on the back end of the middle of the lineup. Bogart, Ontiveros, and Maas all led the team on the day with 2 RBI each. Smith and Marsh chimed in with key RBI as well.

The Sox definitely put on a great show for the thousands of fans that made the long trip out to Rancho San Diego for the season finale and hope to have the chance to dazzle more fans in the future. The championship streak has come to an end at back to back but the Sox have high hopes to win one next season as they work to better their team and battle again against the best teams in San Diego next season.

The Sox battled one of the top-tiered teams in AAA today playing the Sycuan Fire Black Storm out at San Diego High today. The big difference in today’s game was timely hitting. Losing 3-1, the Sox had runners in scoring position all day long but just couldn’t get knocked in. Millar pitched an amazing game but the team just couldn’t pick him up with any runs. Millar struck out 5 in 7 innings only giving...

Sox Lose Game 1 of Double Header

Posted by Maas on July 31st, 2010

The Sox were shorthanded for their rematch against the Barons today in game one of a double header and possibly had some players out of position to start the game. The Barons scored 3 in the first due to some errors. With their starting CF, LF, and 3B missing, the Sox were behind the 8 ball from the get go. Carey threw a great game without the help of those starters and had 7 k's...

Sox Win the Championship, Again!

Posted by Maas on May 22nd, 2010

Well, the Sox were in the championship game again for the second season in a row and didn't disappoint. The Sox played the Cardinals, who were the opponent for the season opener where an illegal player and protest started the Sox's foray into AA on a less than friendly note. The Cardinals were definitely set on proving that they deserved the win against the Sox ten weeks prior as they came out swinging and scored...

Sox Are Going to the 'Ship.....Again!

Posted by Maas on May 15th, 2010

Dirty Sox pull out the win in a battle to make it to the Saturday 18AA championship game. Coming off a depressing loss to the other undefeated team in our division the week before, the Sox bounced back in a big way. Shorthanded, facing the Astros for the 2nd time this season and without our ace Carey on the mound, the Sox rallied for 5 runs in the 3rd and never looked back. Gabriel Rivera...

The Sox continued their winning ways by beating one of their long time rivals, the SD Natives 9-3. It was a close game until the Sox broke out in the 8th by scoring 3 then closing the door in the 9th by scoring 4 more with a huge blast 50 feet over the 330 ft right field fence by Bogart. Carey had yet another tremedous game on the mound striking out 8 in 8 inning...

Sox Five-O

Posted by Maas on April 10th, 2010

The Sox continue their winning way by putting away another opponent in easy fashion. Starting out slowly but scoring 4 runs in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th broke the spirits of the Expos who were outmatched in every aspect of the game. The Sox had a hard time stepping on the throats of their opponents but ended the game with the win anyway. Burnett led the charge by hitting two long home runs,...
