The St. Louis Spartans enter the 2010 season as the #5 ranked team in the St. Louis area according to S.L.A.B. as they return just about everyone from a team that finished 37-8 and won a CYC league championship. This year the Spartans will make the jump to the more competitive MSBL and the newly formed HMML.
The pitching staff will strong once again staff ace Matt Boyer (9-1, 1.27 ERA in 2009) returns along with Will McNiff (5-2, 3.32 ERA) and Chris Peters (3-1, 2.04 ERA). The rotation will also receive a boost from the returns of Lee Essner (1-1, 1.40 ERA) and Geoff Mueller (1-0, 1.40 ERA) to the mound from a year where both saw limited action. The Spartans have also brought back Kevin Sullivan (2-0, 2.43 ERA) and Phil Hearn in addition to signing Casey Savage to make sure there is no short supply on arms. Spartans career strike out leader David Wiggins and Adam Boyer will work from the pen.
The offense from a year ago remains completely in tact. After rigorous negotiations it's officially that 2B Bill Allerdissen (.443, 22 RBI) and LF Adam Boyer (.431, 17 RBI) will be back to lead the offense. With the new additions of Greg Robinson and Brett Holloway the Spartans hope to maintain an offense that averaged 8.1 runs a game with the move to the new leagues.
