Vewy, Vewy Quiet

Posted by The Scoredad on December 27th, 2009

Facing a team that was loaded for bear, the Bulldogs offense went vewy, vewy quiet. We made two errors compared to three for the other team and only walked one while we took three walks. But the big difference was only two hits against eleven for the other team.

A couple of defensive highlights:

Cody catches a line drive from his knees at short in the first inning.

In the fourth inning a hit and run play backfired with a third base line popup to the catcher Duke who winged it over to Dane at first for the double play.

We never went 3up3down, but stranded one every inning.

Best In Show:

Duke led off the second inning with a hot grounder that went right between the pins of the second baseman. Then he hit a nubber to the right side in the fourth that everyone tried to field, leaving nobody to cover first base. Not works of art, but safe both times. And he started the only double play of the tourney. Congrats.

Good Dogs:

Ken picked up the only rbi with his grounder. He started this one on the hill and was victimized by a nubber and another throw into left field for a couple of runs.

Dane hit his first inning nubber for a single, but his sharp grounder to short beat him by a step for his only out as a Bulldog. He threw the heat for two innings, but they were able to paint the lines and dink a slow roller or two to do some damage. Only one walk to the 14 batters he faced.

Mike drew a two out walk in the fourth and almost sneaked over to third in the confusion at first base. Mike was our golden glove this tourney with no errors in 8 chances. He played a clean second base and closed the game on the mound allowing a single run on two hits and no walks.

Sean drew a full count walk in the fifth and had the honor of being the final Bulldog base runner in this tourney.

Ryker drew a full count walk in the third and had the honor of being the only Bulldog base runner in that inning.

Lucky Dogs:

Cody is the team leader in reaching base on an error. He did it again to start the game as the center fielder dropped his leadoff fly. Then he stole second and third base so when Ken grounded to short the throw went home, but not well. And Cody scored the only run for the team this game. As usual he was a dynamo at shortstop.

Madison hit a grounder in the fifth and the third baseman juggled and danced like he was trying out for a reality tv show.

From what I heard our kids had the closest game with the other team who went on to win the tourney. It looked like they were having the most fun as well. The bats may go quiet, but the thrills and chills continue. Until next time....
