Another Foul on Freddy

Posted by The Scoredad on March 6th, 2010

This one probably will not go down in the books as the most fun game of the season. The Calle Bulldogs were playing with a skeleton squad missing four teammates from injuries and other schedule conflicts. The six in attendance were up for a good game and battled hard. Two points separated the teams for most of the first half as the Bulldogs matched the 30% shooting by the 76ers with a 29% rate. The 76ers were shooting more and rebounding more, so they led 17-12 at the half. The Bulldog problems were about to come to a head though. Due to double booking by the city, the court was being shared by two games. Effectively playing sideways the lines were missing or inconclusive and whistles were tough to identify between the two games. That was a handicap for both teams equally. What hurt the Bulldogs worse was losing Tanner to his schedule at the half and the number of whistles that Cameron was attracting. Jesse had taken a poke to the eyes and was playing hurt. Early in the second half Jesse was unable to play through the pains and Cameron was called for his fifth foul. From that point the game took an ugly turn with increasingly harder fouls and nasty throw downs. With only four and then three Bulldogs against the five 76ers, the score was being run up as well. Even the people arriving for the next games were commenting on the poor sportsmanship being shown. Frustration and technical fouls followed. With a couple of minutes remaining they just played keepaway for a while. Not much fun.

From the point when the Bulldogs were playing with four and finally with three players, the statistics became much less meaningful. With little chance to get a clear shot and less to get a rebound, the Bulldogs were double and triple teamed, the shots were forced with no second chances. The book on this one stops at the point Jesse could not continue. A couple of the boys [including Mike] made shots and got rebounds after that time, but it seemed a fair stopping point. Please let me know if you disagree.

The Bulldogs shooting percentage was 24%.

Jesse was the high scorer hitting 2/3 for a Game High 4 points. He also got 4 rebounds.

Evan was the rebounding force grabbing 9 boards including 4 from the offensive glass. He also scored 3 points for the cause.

Tanner also scored 3 in the first half and pulled down a couple of rebounds. He also blocked a shot.

Cameron sank a bucket for 2 points. He was the assist leader with all 3 Bulldog assists. He stole the ball 3 times and had 3 rebounds.

Garrett rounded out the scoring with a basket for 2 points. He also had a rebound.

I am certain there is a lesson to be learned from this one. I wish it were easier for me to unearth it, however. Perhaps it is as simple as live and let live. Next week is a new chance for some fun in the season finale. Let us all find it and enjoy it. Good try today, guys.
