Calle Bulldogs 28, Kings 11
| Posted by The Scoredad on March 13th, 2010 | |
The Calle Bulldogs were determined to put things right for the last game of the 2010 season and they did just that under the guidance of Coach Ron assisted by Coach Mike. The closer would be the Kings who gave us a good game at the end of January with a 5 point Bulldog win. With last week fading like a forgotten nightmare the boys started this one strong and stayed strong all game. With Lucas, Ryan and George either on the DL or out of town the seven surviving Bulldogs held court and played a clean, well fought game on both ends. The score was pretty close for most of the game. Then with about 4 minutes left the Bulldogs went on a tear and finished with a seventeen point win. Good stuff.
The Bulldogs shooting percentage was a solid 27% and was the difference in the game. The Kings matched up in every category but one. Rebounds, turnovers, steals, fouls and assists were well balanced betweeen the two teams. Except the Kings shot at a pretty dismal 7% rate. That is a tough rate to overcome even with everything else in balance. The Bulldogs got good contributions from all seven players:
Evan was the scoring star at center hitting 4/11 for a Game High 8 points. He also cleaned up the boards with a near record 18 rebounds including a record 13 off the defensive glass. He added three steals and an assist along with a blocked shot. Big game for the big guy.
Tanner was right there hustling and taking aim as well. His 3/11 was good for 6 points and he was banging off the boards to the tune of 5 rebounds. His hustle accounted for 7 steals.
Max was another hustler today stealing the ball four times. He was 2/6 from the field shooting 33% for 4 points. And he grabbed 3 rebounds playing guard.
Mike was the efficient one today hitting 2/3 for his 4 points. He had 3 steals and a couple of assists. His hustle was good for 3 offensive rebounds.
Cameron got on the board with an early bucket for 2 points. He is also a big presence on defense grabbing 4 rebounds with 2 steals and an assist.
Garrett kicked in 2 points in the final surge. Also snagged a couple of rebounds and stole the ball a couple of times as well.
Jesse rounded out the scoring with 2 points in that late flurry. Swarming on defense he came up with 5 steals and pulled down 2 rebounds.
As balanced as this game was, it also balanced out the season for a .500 final record of 4-4. The only thing missing was the balance of the squad for the season closer:
George was one of the Bulldog leaders in both scoring and rebounding all season. A smile for each basket and board.
Ryan was the scrapper on the Bulldog court, diving for the loose balls. A leader in both rebounding and assists.
Lucas was a huge Bulldog loss to injury, missing the end of the season. Top of the leader boards in both scoring and rebounds.
Win or lose, our kids had a good time and learned more than a few things about basketball and being a good sport from the coaching staff of Mike, Todd, Paul and especially head coach Ron. On balance, it was a terrific season. Thank you very much.
